About Dr. Bernd Sörries

Dr Bernd Sörries has headed the "Regulation and Competition" department at WIK-Consult since the beginning of 2017 and has been a director and authorised signatory since January 2019.
His work focuses on frequency policy and regulation, business plan modelling, sector-specific regulation of fixed and mobile markets and smart energy.
Dr. Sörries studied administrative sciences at the University of Konstanz and the University of Gothenburg (Sweden). He completed his doctorate at the University of Konstanz. Dr Sörries worked at E-Plus Mobilfunk GmbH from 1998 to 2010. During these 12 years, he held management positions in the areas of corporate development, regulation and corporate affairs. Dr. Sörries was directly involved in the frequency auctions in 1999 and 2000. In the run-up to the auction of frequencies in 2010, he was project manager for the preparation of the auction, including the valuation of frequencies. From 2010 to 2013, he worked as the managing director of the Research Centre for Mobile Broadband at the ITM of the University of Münster, which he established, and has continued to teach at the University of Applied Sciences Südwestfalen since 2014. Here, in addition to business management issues, the focus was also on legal aspects of IT and telecommunications. In the Broadband Competence Centre NRW (BBCC.NRW), he worked intensively on broadband expansion in 2014-2015. In addition, he worked as a self-employed management consultant. He has carried out projects in the energy and telecommunications market.
He is a member of the Committee for Information and Communication Technology of the DIHK. From 2009 until the end of 2016, he was chairman of the committee. Dr Sörries is co-author of the commentary on the Telecommunications Act, edited by Prof. Säcker (3rd edition). Furthermore, Dr Sörries is a member of the digitalisation advisory board of the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
