Frank Leidenberger, a graduate in business administration and retired lieutenant general, looks back on a career spanning more than 40 years in the German Armed Forces. After joining in 1977 and studying economics at the University of the German Armed Forces in Munich, he took on a variety of leadership and staff functions at home and abroad, including in Bosnia-Herzegovina and Afghanistan. From 2008, after his promotion to brigadier general, he was brigade commander of Airborne Brigade 31 and served in Afghanistan and as commander of the EU Battlegroup, among other things. In 2015, he was promoted to lieutenant general and served again in Afghanistan as chief of staff of the ISAF follow-up mission Resolute Support. He then served as commander of the army's basic military organisation and the German contingent of the Multinational Corps, where he was responsible for the conceptual development of the army. In 2018, he took a leave of absence from his duties in the German Armed Forces to serve as managing director of BWI GmbH, the German Armed Forces' IT service provider. In 2023, he took over as Chairman of the Management Board at BWI GmbH, a position he relinquished on 1 October 2025.
